Even in Teamplast we meet every day with companies that are looking for different solutions: less impactful, more transparent, but also truly functional. This article was born from those conversations and from our direct experience in proposing innovative materials.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Bio-based, biodegradable, compostable: the fundamental differences<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These terms are often used as synonyms, but they have very different meanings and, for those of us who work in the sector, it is essential to know their real implications.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.infobuild.it\/approfondimenti\/materiali-bio-based-per-architettura\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>Bio-based<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: materials derived from biological resources (such as corn, sugar cane <\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">sugar, algae), but not necessarily biodegradable. Some biopolymers, even if they are bio-based, behave like traditional plastics.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Biodegradable<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: materials that degrade over time thanks to the action of bacteria, enzymes and other natural agents. However, the conditions in which this occurs <\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">degradation are not always present in the environment.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Compostable<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: rapidly biodegradable in composting plants <\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">industrial, according to the EN 13432 standard. Not all compostables are suitable for home composting.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In Teamplast we carefully evaluate with each client what is <\/span><b>the most suitable material for the final use<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, without falling into the trap of greenwashing. The right solution is the one that takes into account <\/span><b>the whole life cycle<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of packaging, not just its origin or its end-of-life.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) as a decision-making tool<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One of the most important tools for guiding choices is the <\/span><b>LCA \u2013 Life Cycle Analysis<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. At Teamplast we believe it is essential when a customer asks us: \u201cWhat is the most sustainable material?\u201d. First of all <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">we analyze whether the product that must be packaged is suitable for the characteristics of the various materials and, subsequently, having identified the materials suitable for that particular use, we go on to verify their relative impacts.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There <strong>LCA<\/strong> allows you to:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">evaluate the environmental impact of a material from production to <\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">disposal<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">compare alternatives on a scientific basis<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">avoid making bad choices based only on perception (e.g. paper vs plastic)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When we propose new materials or structures, we like to accompany the proposal with a reasoning that takes into account <\/span><b>real data and measurable impacts<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, not just market trends. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In Teamplast we do not deal with Bio-based, compostable or biodegradable materials, but we firmly believe in regenerated material that is produced from processing waste. This material, however, is not suitable for certain uses and therefore we try to direct the customer towards reliable companies with whom we collaborate, to offer safe and quality solutions, giving them the opportunity to find what they are looking for.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Reusable packaging and refill systems<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Packaging does not have to be \u201cdisposable\u201d. In some sectors, especially in cosmetics and cleaning, we are helping our customers to design <\/span><b>reusable packs<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> or <\/span><b>refill systems<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This approach requires:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a robust yet ergonomic design<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">durable, hygienic materials<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a different thought on logistics and the relationship with the consumer<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For us, it is one of the most stimulating challenges: transforming a package into a <\/span><b>service object<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, an integral part of the brand experience.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Tracking and transparency technologies<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Today sustainability rhymes with <\/span><b>traceability<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. We are increasingly integrating systems such as:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>QR code <\/b><b>(of our customers)<\/b> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">which refer to technical data sheets and websites where the consumer can retrieve information on recycling or the origin of the material<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>prints <\/b><b>intelligent<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> which signal the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">type of material and correct disposal<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The future of packaging also passes through here: from information, from technology and from a more open dialogue with those who use those products every day.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In <strong>Teamplast<\/strong> we believe that there is not just one right material, but <\/span><b>a right choice for every context<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
