together.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> In public debate the word <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">plastic<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> it is automatically associated with waste, pollution and rubbish.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The reality, however, is much more complex and above all <\/span><b>not all plastics are created equal<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In this article we want to explain, in a simple and concrete way, why <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gommacellulareitaliana.it\/i-tipi-di-polietilene-hdpe-ldpe-e-lldpe\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>LDPE and HDPE<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the two polymers at the basis of most Teamplast products, <\/span><b>they do not represent the problem<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, but a fundamental part of the <\/span><b>solution when it comes to sustainable, recyclable and efficient packaging<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>What are LDPE and HDPE (in simple terms)<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">LDPE and HDPE are two types of <\/span><b>polyethylene<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, one of the most widely used plastic materials worldwide for industrial, food and logistics packaging.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>LDPE \u2013 Low density polyethylene<\/b><b><br \/>\n<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It is flexible, elastic and resistant.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It is used for bags, films, hoods, liners and protective covers.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>HDPE \u2013 High Density Polyethylene<\/b><b><br \/>\n<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It is more rigid and structured.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It is used for shopping bags, containers, more robust bags and envelopes.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The most important thing to understand is this:<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span> <b>LDPE and HDPE are monomaterial materials<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, that is, composed of a single polymer.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Why monomaterial is so important for recycling<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the world of recycling, <\/span><b>simplicity is a huge value<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A packaging made with:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">more coupled materials<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">different layers glued together<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">mixed or incompatible plastics<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is very difficult \u2013 if not impossible \u2013 to recycle effectively.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On the contrary, <\/span><b>LDPE and HDPE<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">they are easily recognizable from the selection plants<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">can be mechanically recycled<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">they fall within consolidated and truly operational recycling chains<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In practice, <\/span><b>When a polyethylene bag or film is correctly disposed of in the plastic recycling collection, it has a very high probability of becoming a new raw material.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Real recyclability, not just &quot;on paper&quot;\u201c<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A central concept in packaging sustainability is that of <\/span><b>real recyclability<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A material can be defined as truly sustainable only if:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is collected<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is selected<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">it is recycled today, not \u201cmaybe in the future\u201d<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">LDPE and HDPE fully meet these criteria:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">are already recycled on a large scale<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">they are transformed into new films, bags and plastic products<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">allow a <\/span><b>concrete circular economy<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, not theoretical<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is also for this reason that the <\/span><b>European regulations<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> he <\/span><b>consortium systems such as CONAI<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> tend to favor single-material polyethylene packaging over more complex and difficult-to-recycle solutions.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Plastic yes, but well designed<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Support LDPE and HDPE <\/span><b>This does not mean that \u201call plastic is good\u201d<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Instead, it means recognizing that <\/span><b>properly designed plastic is a resource<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A well-designed PE packaging:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">use only the necessary material, avoiding waste<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">protects the product, reducing waste and scraps<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It lasts over time and is often reusable<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">it is recyclable at the end of its life<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In many cases, a bag or film made of LDPE:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">it weighs very little<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">has a lower environmental footprint than heavier alternatives<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">avoids damage, contamination and product waste.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is important to remember this: <\/span><b>Throwing away a damaged product has a much greater environmental impact than using efficient, well-designed packaging.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>LDPE and HDPE versus \u201ctrendy\u201d alternatives\u201d<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In recent years the market has been talking more and more often about:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">alternative materials<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">bioplastics<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">apparently \u201cgreener\u201d solutions\u201d<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some of these solutions make sense in very specific contexts.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, in industrial practice it often happens that:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">there are no adequate collection chains<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">end up in the undifferentiated waste<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">have underestimated environmental and industrial costs<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A packaging in <\/span><b>Recycled and recyclable LDPE or HDPE<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, inserted in a supply chain that really works, represents today <\/span><b>one of the most responsible and concrete choices<\/b><span
