But much of the final quality is decided before the reel enters the press. Incomplete graphic files, undefined colors, ambiguous reading direction, or positions incompatible with sealing and conversion can lead to revisions, delays, and avoidable costs.

For this reason, it is useful to approach the graphic design as part of the industrial packaging project.

1. The correct graphics file

The starting point is a production-ready final design, preferably vector-based for any elements that require it. Logos, fonts, images, and bleeds must be managed correctly. A PDF intended solely for viewing may not contain all the information needed for prepress.

2. How many colors and which colors

It's important to define how many colors are expected and how they should be reproduced. For corporate colors, it's important to have shared references, such as Pantone codes when appropriate, avoiding subjective descriptions like "dark blue" or "bright red." The substrate, film transparency, and any background also influence color perception.

3. Where should the graphics be placed?

An envelope isn't just an abstract front. There are seams, folds, gussets, openings, flaps, and functional areas. Positioning must be defined with respect to the actual geometry of the finished product. A correctly designed logo in the file may end up too close to a seam or end up in an unexpected area if the reference is unclear.

4. What is the reading direction?

The reel's unwinding direction, filling direction, and package orientation must all be consistent. This seemingly trivial detail is crucial when the film enters automatic lines or when the graphics must appear precisely oriented on the finished product.

5. What is the print repeat

In flexible packaging, the graphics are repeated along the film. Packaging dimensions and print development must therefore be coordinated. If the project includes elements that must fit into a specific position with respect to cutting or sealing, repetition becomes a technical parameter that must be defined from the outset.

6. Transparency, background and content

Printing on transparent film isn't the same as printing on white paper. The color of the product inside, the background, and the light can change the perceived appearance. It's therefore important to determine the desired effect and evaluate whether specific backgrounds or solutions are needed.

7. Pre-production approval

Before production, it's helpful for the customer and supplier to share an approved reference: graphics, text, colors, dimensions, and positioning. This step reduces ambiguity and creates a common control point. The more complex the packaging, the more thorough validation before launch avoids downstream corrections.

Printing and packaging must be designed together

Teamplast has flexographic printing Up to 6 colors and integrates this process with extrusion and converting. The advantage of an integrated process is not only productive: it allows you to consider the graphics along with the characteristics of the film and the final bag.

The best print isn't just visually appealing. It's the one that lands correctly on the packaging, in the intended position, and without disrupting the customer's process.

For this reason, before production, it's important to evaluate how the graphic design fits into the packaging structure. Print dimensions, text orientation, logo placement, and the presence of seals must be considered together, also taking into account the filling and sealing methods. Effective graphics must remain legible and recognizable when the bag is in use, not just when it's laid out flat. Sharing files, color references, and information about the intended use from the outset helps clarify requirements and identify any critical issues. The expected result is packaging in which visual communication and functionality meet the customer's operational needs.

Do you have new graphics? Share files and specifications before production to verify the technical aspects together.

Una buona stampa comincia prima della macchina Quando si parla di packaging stampato, l’attenzione va spesso al risultato estetico.
